Extinction agent price hikes cause market turmoil; ample inventory available; pricing to be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
2019-05-10
Recently, domestic extinction‑agent prices have been influenced by news of price hikes from leading producers and the consolidation of major players, prompting strong follow‑up from other manufacturers. Price increases have ranged from RMB 200 to 500 per ton. However, most distributors report that domestic brands have seen little pricing movement, adopting a wait-and-see approach, largely because downstream demand remains subdued and pressure from foreign brands persists. Actual transaction prices will continue to be negotiated on a case‑by‑case basis. At present, mainstream quotations for sulfate‑process rutile‑type and anatase‑type titanium dioxide in China stand at RMB 11,500–13,000 per ton and RMB 9,500–10,500 per ton, respectively, both inclusive of tax. An assistant analyst specializing in titanium dioxide forecasts that, in the short term, the market will likely see modest price gains, though some speculative elements cannot be ruled out. Going forward, price stability will need to be firmly established, with actual transaction prices remaining steady and negotiations continuing on a deal‑by‑deal basis.
